Typographic Tautology

we worked in pairs for this project. i had the lovely ed rivers working with me :] and after a lot of research we ended up deconstructing an aristotle quote (below).

the most significance we found with this tongue-twister, was its allusive message & unnecessary repetition of meaning using different words that effectively mean the same thing. we aimed to illustrate this confusion by overlaying the two halves of the quotation, which creates a kind of typographical illusion. letterforms can both be found in the negative and positive shapes which reinforces the message of the quotation itself; how do we define truth?

'Zealous'

this was from a one day typographic workshop we did at the start of year one where we were asked to transcribe a chosen word into something 3D using a single sheet of paper (not asking for much then). with the word 'zealous', i was lead by its phonetics and tried to recreate the sharp sting of the 'z' followed by a fluid consonant-vowel sandwich lol.

here we had to make a 3D piece of type that said something about a given letter/symbol and typeface…i was given the question mark and Times New Roman and after a lot of research i focused on the origin of the question mark '?' which is believed to have morphed from the abbreviated latin 'quaestiō' (recorded as a 'Q' over an 'o')… then I tried to represent the typeface, one which was inspired by the founders of western society; the Romans, in the strengthening and supporting structure…

Package 100

for this brief we worked in pairs and each group were given 100 of a particular item. we had pills and eventually produced a jacket, that satirises overconsumption and dependance on painkillers within modern society - using pockets labelled with nonsense illnesses (such as a broken heart, designer's hump & cold shoulder) that are not real and therefore cannot be cured.
