'Zealous'

this was from a one day typographic workshop we did at the start of year one where we were asked to transcribe a chosen word into something 3D using a single sheet of paper (not asking for much then). with the word 'zealous', i was lead by its phonetics and tried to recreate the sharp sting of the 'z' followed by a fluid consonant-vowel sandwich lol.

there are way too many editorials out there that i love, so i'v just given a few lush ones i'm rather fond of :]...

steven maisel's theatrical editorial titled 'wild warriors' from vogue-italia's november07 issue. currently addicted to his blog, he's managed to capture some funky sh*t in his time!

beautiful klimt inspired editorial shoot 'the bohemian way' by emma summerton

emma pick's latest work for seventh man magazine draws from michelangelo antonioni's 1970 film, 'zabriskie point'. its disarrangement of garments features the discourse of protest with projections from the film.

Madame Tutli-Putli

taking 4 years to produce; this oscar winning mixture of stop-frame animation and live action results in an eery, but beautifully human-like protagonist in a 17-minute film.

Shhhiney Shoooes?

KENNY no lace loafer from Top Shop

i treated myself to a new pair of shoes :) -yay! (above photo doesn't do them justice) however my little sister had to insult them, claiming it to be nothing more than an old ladies shoe from Clarks! PSHHH is all i can say, i love them with their understated sophistication and soft leather taken from their Norwegian moccasin-type ancestors - nom!

Self-initiated brief - Taboo

inspired by buffoon-ism; the purpose of this project was to expose areas of social tension by pushing taboo and marginalising a 'normal' person (i.e. myself [if you count me as normal]) through grotesque disfigurement of the face, and witness how exclusion from social systems results in clarity.

by challenging conformity, we purge society of its taboos by shifting their perspective, and helping people reassess their values by instigating change. what is the perfect human form after all? this project was a personal challenge, overcoming my desire to remain 'in the background', however, with elastic bands tied around my face to distort it; i performed typically mundane tasks such as shopping along the high-street; ordering a drink in the pub, texting from a public bench etc. the reaction i got from the public was either to ignore me, mock or make negative remarks and it was interesting
how pushing the social boundary of physicality offends us.

Weather Project

an ever growing torment for drivers, potholes are the product of heat and pressure change. here i aimed to find an alternative use for them (other than wrecking car suspensions) and the notoriously treacherous stretch of road in my home town - Hare Lane, was the focus of my attention; and through translating each pothole into a note on a sheet of music, i have managed to create the road's own melody.

i then transcribed these notes back into tangible holes, punched in a roll of music paper that, when fed through a dutch street organ, will add another dimension to it. (however finding one to play it on is a task and a half :/)
